Ford continues to work diligently on the next-generation “T6” global Ford Ranger that’s expected to be sold in countries outside the U.S. and Canada starting in 2011. Major changes are expected in the Ranger’s engine lineup to broaden its global appeal, including new 3.2-litre and 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesels, a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Duratec gas engine and a 2.0-litre EcoBoost mill. All will be four-cylinders. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are also expected.
Previous photos gave us a glimpse of an undisguised interior, which is sleeker than the current Ranger’s interior. It features a multifunction steering wheel and gauge cluster that’s reminiscent of that found in the all-new 2011 Ford Fiesta and Focus cars.
Two versions
Ford sells two versions of the Ranger: the U.S.-built Ranger sold in the USA and in Canada, and a Thai-built Ranger that shares only its name with the North American Ranger. Production of the U.S. Ranger is scheduled to end in 2011. U.S. and Canadian buyers interested in a successor to the Ranger will likely have to make do with only a more fuel-efficient Ford F-150.
