The regular 2012 Mercedes SL has been spotted with a lot less disguise than these pictures show. Today, however, we´ve caught another set of pictures of the hot AMG version on Germany’s challenging Nürburgring: The SL 55 AMG!
Yes, you’ve read right: The new top-of-the-range will be named 55 AMG and will feature Mercedes’ brand-new naturally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8. It is the same new engine, that will be used for yet more powerful 63 AMG-models, then equipped with two turbochargers. The current 6.2-litre engine used for the 63 AMG models of the past will slowly die. The quad-tip exhaust, sportier wheels and tires and cross drilled brake rotors tell us this SL will wear the AMG badge. We can also see a deeper air inlet in the lower fascia.
