Polished strategies, attractive models, a billion profit, Ford rides like the wind! And a new money maker is coming, provided that the new Ford Kuga will be a ‘global vehicle’.
The current Kuga is a nice steering, compact SUV that’s the benchmark in its class. But to be successful globally, you must adapt to the (local) market. The Ford Kuga of today it isn’t. This because it’s only available with powerful, therefore more expensive engines where the majority of Europe is not waiting for at all. The new Kuga, just like the new Focus, will be more a 'global car' promises Ford and that means hopefully more attractive engines. We expect at least the 2.0 TDCi diesel. Witch Ecoboost petrol motor will be under the hood remains a bit of mystery. Several sources indicate it will be the 2.0-litre, but at the same time, we're hearing the 1.6-litre is getting strong consideration due to its better fuel economy.
Vertrek Concept Only two months ago, Ford unveiled the Vertrek Concept at the NAIAS, hinting at the way forward for the next-generation Kuga. And you can bet that the production model has great similarities with the study. The Vertrek was one size bigger than the current Kuga, but don’t be fooled by these photos, the new one has similar sizes as the current Kuga.
