Here’s the first sight of the production version of the all-new Toyota Yaris, scheduled to go on sale in early 2012. Toyota’s sub-compact hatchback was spotted undergoing outside a proving ground in Germany. The prototype of the disguised hatchback appears to be longer and wider than the current Yaris, and – like the predecessor – the new model will come as a sedan and hatch. However, rumours suggest the line-up will be completed by a seven-seater MPV.
The current Yaris’ 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine might be offered again for the successor, but a larger 1.8-litre unit remains another possibility. Definitely coming will be a hybrid and maybe also a pure electric version, although it will take until far into 2012 before we see the first and even longer before we will get to know the latter version. The global debut of the conventional, petrol-powered models will be sometime in 2011 though the car won’t make it to dealers before early 2012.
This car has not been spotted in Germany but in Belgium.
