Dacia is working on MPV and commercial van

Friday July 8 2011 - Hans

These photos are bad news for many other car manufacturers such as Opel, Volkswagen and others having MPVs and commercial vans in their line-up. Bad news because these photos are showing the new low-cost MPV and its commercial brother from the Romanian brand Dacia are well underway!

The passenger-car 7-seater MPV, codenamed J92 and with the possible name Popster, will hit the market in 2012, and with a low price and loads of space this will surely be a big success. Prices are rumoured to start at ca 13 000 Euros for the petrol version and 15 000 Euros for the diesel versions.

Commercial van
A shorter commercial van based on the same platform and featuring more or less the same design is underway, too, and we have the first shots: Different from its passenger car colleague, the commercial vehicle will be significantly shorter and will be equipped with a sliding door at the kerbside (and no second door at the driver’s side).

Morocco
The Popster will be built in Morocco and is expected to be around 4.50 metres long. Just like the Dacia Duster and Logan, the J92 (Popster) will be offered as a Renault product for emerging markets. The commercial van would probably stretch to 4.30 metres, bringing it into line with cars like the Renault Kangoo and VW Caddy.
