It´s been a while since we´ve seen signs of new product development going on at Chrysler, but things finally seem to be picking up! These are the first exclusive photos of the 2011 Voyager prototype out on the streets of Michigan showing the inside and the outside of the new minivan.
Up front we can see right away that the Voyager will get the grille from the 2009 Chrysler 200C EV concept car. The camouflage is fitting tightly enough that we can also see the bumper now curves upward on either end, compared to the squared off look of the current model. The lower fascia also appears to be significantly redesigned with added brightwork.
At the back Chrysler wants you to believe they've added massive, Volvo-like tailights to their minivan. It's all camo, however, as the general size of the light cluster has not changed. While we weren't able to get a photo showing them, the redesigned tailights now feature LEDs. Expect some minor restyling on the rear bumper and tailgate as well.
Goggles
Inside, we can see lots of changes! A new steering wheel with many more buttons is the first change that pops out. We can also see a new gauge cluster, with one of the exceptionally large binnacles showing. The nav screen is also larger and the center stack below it has been redesigned. The entire dash has been reworked and now curves inward towards the center stack. A new, swoopy chrome-ringed air vent can also be seen in the corner.
Under the hood
The big news under the hood will be the addition of the 3.6L Pentastar V6 motor mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Expect a significant increase in fuel economy and around 290hp. Fiat's multiair technology may also be added to the Pentastar at a later date.
