It was known by the name PAS, but this new BMW will finally be the 5 series GT. BMW is still developing the model, because at the end of 2009 the car will be officially revealed. Camouflage suggests though, that it will enter the market in two years at the earliest.
When BMW will launch the 5 series GT they create a whole new market segment. The 5 series GT is a mixture of a sedan, a stationwagon and a liftback. But taking BMW's word for it the model will also be SUV featured. In short, a real crossover.
What target group does BMW aim for?
Klaus Draeger, chief development, told the following to De Telegraaf: the car will be suitable for customers that are no longer interested in the SUV segment, but still want to have a large luggage compartment. The PAS is less enormous due to its coupe like exterior. Moreover, the driver seat is less high than in a SUV. Special about the car is the tailgate which opens into two parts, as it does like the Skoda Superb.
When can we expect the PAS?
Due to the amount of camouflage one would not believe that this car will be at the dealers at the end of this year. This prototype was spotted in the streets of Munich by Christian Wimmer today. We thank him for the photos sent.
