The Peugeot 208 will replace the 207 compact car sometime in early 2012 – and it will be available as a three-door hatch, too, as these pictures prove. The 207 was Peugeot’s best-selling car for many years and Europe’s largest selling car in 2007.
The current model was launched in 2006 to replace the 206 and the car has been a runaway success. The all-new 208, which is to replace the 207, will borrow styling cues heavily from the Peugeot 508 family saloon which sports the new design language of Peugeot.
Three-cylinder
The Peugeot 208 will get an all new three-cylinder engine which could come in both naturally aspirated and supercharged avatars. New four-cylinder gasoline engines from BMW could also power the 2012 Peugeot 208. Added to the range will also be a number of fuel-efficient diesel engines. The 2012 Peugeot 208 could get the Start-stop system as standard.
Body styles
The Peugeot 208 will be offered in three body styles, a hatchback (3-door and 5-door (the latter war photographed yet some months ago)), a station-wagon and a hard-top convertible. The 2012 Peugeot 208 will have to compete with the Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio and the Toyota Yaris.
